Did you know that there may be substances in and around your home that are poisonous to your pet?  Would you know what to do if your dog or cat were poisoned? Download Pet Poison Help for information on hundreds of household products and plants that are potentially toxic to your pet, and steps to take if your dog or cat is exposed to one of these toxins.

Pet Poison Helpline, a 24/7 animal poison control center based in Minneapolis, MN, answers over 100,000 calls a year regarding pet poisonings.  We created Pet Poison Help to assist pet owners or veterinarians in quickly identifying potential poisons, recognizing symptoms of a potential poisoning, and to allow one-touch direct dialing access to the veterinary professionals at Pet Poison Helpline.

Pet Poison Help will provide you with:

* Life-saving access to poison information with one-touch direct dialing to Pet Poison Helpline.

* A searchable database of over 250 poisonous plants, foods, medications and household items, all with pictures.

* Descriptions of how specific poisons affect your pet, their alternate common names, and symptoms to watch for.

* Instructions on what to do if your dog or cat is exposed to a dangerous substance.

This application (app) is designed as an informational resource for pet owners to keep their animals safe from the effects of poisonous substances, but it is by no means exhaustive. When it comes to poisonings, keep in mind that the amount ingested, along with the time since ingestion, overall health, age, species, and breed of your pet may affect the severity or outcome of any toxic exposure. When in doubt, please contact your veterinarian or Pet Poison Helpline for immediate, life-saving advice.

Pros and cons of Pet Poison Help app for iPhone and iPad

Pet Poison Help app good for

Pet Poison Hotline is the where the vets call when animals come in with suspected/confirmed poison cases…they have vets on duty to assess for a fee….this app is .99 cents which is an absolute BARGAIN for in-your-hand reference material, (NOT to replace the hotline or your own vet, but for those moments when youre not sure if that fern youre looking to bring home would be safe for your pup AND kitten….or if the gorgeous poinsettia your great aunt just sent over should be placed at ground level or not.…i think its just plain silly to have a dog/cat and not have this at your finger tips, regardless of the age of your pet! but thats just my opinion. =) doggy daycare and pet sitting company owner and operator/vet assistant
As a practicing veterinarian Ill be recommending this to all my clients too... Stand aside, Dr Google!

Some bad moments

This is a comprehensive app containing pictures and information about a wide range of substances that are toxic to pets (plants, foods, household chemicals, etc). I think it will be incredibly useful to any pet-owner whose pet has a penchant for poisoning itself! Of course, there are a couple of things Id like to see in the next update. Releasing it as a universal iOS app rather than an iPhone app would be nice (though it looks "fine" on the new iPad when running at 2X, it could look "great!"…); Id also like the author to consider the possibility of allowing an in-app purchase upgrade that would include additional treatment information useful for veterinarians in clinical practice. As it stands, though, its a very nice app. Good job!
Well organized and good presentation of information on potential toxins for all varieties of pets. Just scrolling through the list I found many things I didnt know could be toxic to my pets. The filter for particular species is nice too if you just want to look at what could be toxic for a dog or cat or horse etc, without seeing everything. Excellent app, company and service!!!
This app is very well designed and is easy to use. I like the easy search and scroll functions, but my favorite part is the ability to filter for only those types of animals I am concerned about (e.g., dogs and cats only). It also provides information about other animals as well (birds, horses, etc.). This is one app that you hope you never use because of the subject, but you will be glad you had it should the need arise.
The way this was described to me at WVC in Vegas was that it was for vets. I was looking forward to having a good pocket toxicology reference that included treatment protocols, not just potential symptoms and a phone number. Close, but not quite there.
A great reference to have on hand and its with you at all times. It is easy to use. Great for any pet owner.
Great app to have around if you own a dog that tends to eat just about any plant you walk by - like me. Lots of great information plus the ability to co0ntact the Pet Poison Helpline direclty in case of emergency.
